This course includes a 1 day Wild Swimming Safety course, which covers theory and practice in the river. You’ll learn to identify hazards, complete dynamic assessments, and perform low-risk rescues. The following day, you’ll attend a therapeutic Cold Water Facilitator session. This session will cover the medical benefits and complications of cold water immersion and how to manage safe cold water immersion both physically and psychologically. 

These courses have been developed by us and Kevin O'Neil of Breatholution - this course is certified by Rescue 3 to cover all the requirements people may encounter when taking people into cold water.

Day 1

  • - About Rescue 3

  • - Moving water hydrology and hazards

  • - Personal and team equipment for wild swimming

  • - Weather and coastal considerations

  • - Pre-planning for wild swimming emergencies and rescue

  • - Dynamic risk assessments

  • - Cold water and ice considerations

  • - Medical and decontamination considerations

  • - Wild swimming group management

  • - Moving water swimming and self-rescue

  • - Shallow water wading techniques

  • - Conditional rescues – talk, reach, throw

  • - Use of swim floats

  • - Wild swimming emergency procedures

  • - Casualty management
